In Stores Soon: Rosé and Mini-Bottle Versions of St Hallett Tatiara Wine
Mercian to Launch 750ml Rosé and 180ml Cabernet-Shiraz and Chardonnay

Tokyo, December 7, 2011-Mercian Corporation (head office: Tokyo; President & CEO Toru Suzuki), on February 15 2012, will launch St Hallett Tatiara Rosé, a new wine from its St Hallett Tatiara Australian series, co-developed with Lion Pty Ltd (head office: Sydney; CEO: Rob Murray), a subsidiary of the Kirin Group.
At the same time, the company will also launch 180ml-sized mini-bottle versions of St Hallett Tatiara Cabernet-Shiraz and Chardonnay, two wines released as 750ml bottles in March 2011.

  • St Hallett Tatiara Rosé
In a survey designed to identify gaps between wine drinking experience ("Wines I currently drink”) and interest (“Wines I want to drink in future”), among three major wine categories of red, white, and rosé, Mercian found that while the drinking experience exceeded interest in the red and white categories, interest in the rosé wines was greater than experience. Anticipating that the rosé wine market will expand in near future, the company will add a rosé variety to its St Hallett Tatiara series to further strengthen the brand.
St Hallett Tatiara Rosé is a dry, lively wine with a pure fruitful aroma, and goes well with Japanese cuisine, such as thinly sliced pork shabu-shabu (Japanese styled hot pots) and light dishes featuring spring greens and vegetables.

  • 180ml Mini-Bottle
To help consumers enjoy St Hallett Tatiara Cabernet-Shiraz and St Hallett Tatiara Chardonnay more often, and in a more casual way, Mercian will launch 180ml mini-sized versions that can be finished in one sitting, in affordable pricing.

  • About St Hallett Tatiara Wines
St Hallett, a five-star* Australian winery owned by Lion, carefully crafts its wines according to the philosophy that good vineyards and good people make great wines. Its St Hallett Tatiara series was co-developed with Mercian as an Australian wine tailored to the delicate Japanese palate, with the Cabernet-Shiraz and Chardonnay varieties released in March 2011.

<Two Features of St Hallett Tatiara>

  • A flavor carefully created through collaboration between Japanese and Australian winemakers
Mercian´s winemakers takes part in the final blending process in Australia to come up with a flavor that goes well with diverse range of food in Japan. This process ensured that the wines satisfy the demands of the Japanese market while at the same time reflecting the characteristics of Australian wines. They are the product of an international collaboration between winemakers within the Kirin Group. People in Japan will be able to choose from three varieties in this series designed especially to satisfy their refined tastes.
  • Local Bottling
St Hallett Tatiara varieties are bottled in Japan at Mercian´s Fujisawa plant from bulk wine imported from Australia with a container equipped with a special low oxygen permeability bags with a capacity of 24kl, equivalent to 32K 750ml bottles. Local bottling makes it possible to use lightweighted, environmental friendly bottles and packaging materials manufactured in Japan, and also reduces CO2 emissions associated with oceanic shipping by around 60% per 750ml bottle, according to Mercian estimates.

Mercian is committed to providing a wide range of quality wines to suit every palate and every occasion in line with its philosophy of “creating good times with good wines.”
