Production and Supply Chain Management

Production

Quality is Mercian’s number one priority. We develop and manufacture products to the highest standards, while maintaining strict levels of hygiene. By doing so, we provide safe and reliable products to our customers. We have continued to enhance our Fujisawa plant since 1999 to improve production efficiency and enable more frequent and shorter manufacturing runs. As a result, the plant can quickly turn out a diverse range of items and thereby meet customers’ demands for beverages that have been freshly produced. We also overhauled our Yatsushiro plant, which mainly produces rice- and barley-based shochu, and built a new processing liquors plant in Nikko. The two plants became operational in September 2006 as part of a plan to bolster production capabilities.

We seek to build a system that produces high-quality, added-value products, while remaining environment-friendly by conserving energy and reducing CO2 emissions.

Distribution

We aim to reduce total costs by monitoring sales trends and utilizing a supply chain management system that carefully manages inventory levels. We have also pioneered a cargo tracking system for sharing information with our distribution partners. Many of our shipments include wine and other delicate products. For this reason, we are developing systems that control the temperature of cargo in storage and in transit to ensure products arrive in even better condition.
