Plum Wine Business

Umeshu plum wine has long been a firm favorite in Japan as an accessible liquor that can be made at home.
Mercian has been making plum wine since the 1970s, using techniques gathered from wine and shochu production.

Using our wealth of techniques and knowledge to develop products for diverse needs.

Mercian utilizes the techniques and know-how it has built up over the years to develop products for a wide range of consumer needs.

Products which have proved popular include the refreshing Karoyaka Umeshu, which has 85% less sugar and 60% less calories while maintaining the authentic taste of plum wine, the sweetly scented full-bodied Noukou Umeshu, and Houjun Umeshu Select, made with brown sugar and matured for 3 years.

In addition to this lineup, we have released the new Makkoi Umeshu, which uses the “Houjun stone maturation method” in which only the stones of the plums are immersed in alcohol, adding a sweet floral scent to the fruity plum bouquet. Mercian also created Ume Makkoi, a product made with the plum flesh which is separated from the stone through the “freezing immersion method” so as to use all of the flesh.

We are constantly working to deliver products to suit a variety of customers.
